There was nowhere else to go
And you said you always had my back
Oh but how were we to know’
The lyrics are
stereotyping that young people (late teens presumably) have nowhere to go and
nothing to do, so resort to drinking in the park. This suggests that they are
not at the legal age to drink as they would go to a bar or nightclub instead of
a park.
The next two
lines connote that the two characters were once close friends or in a
relationship, but are possibly fading apart or going through difficulties with
their relationship. The character that is speaking is doubting that the other
will support them.
‘That these are the days that bind you together, forever
And these little things define you forever, forever’
And these little things define you forever, forever’
I think that
these lyrics relate to the happy days the couple have had, but through the bad
times is the arguments that they need to overcome and that keeps them together.
Suggesting that they argue often, and that these arguments define who they are,
showing their ‘true colours’.
‘All this bad blood here, won't you let it dry?
It's been cold for years, won't you let it lie?’
It's been cold for years, won't you let it lie?’
The chorus is
simply the voice of the character asking for all of the bad experiences and
memories the couple have shared, that these bad times get put to rest and
forgotten by the other so they can move on.
‘If we're only ever looking back
We will drive ourselves insane’
We will drive ourselves insane’
I interpret this
as that if the couple are only looking back and focusing on the rough patches
they have gone through, and then they won’t get anywhere. Feelings of anger and
sadness will come back into their minds and taunt them, playing with their
emotions and thus ‘driving them insane.’
‘As the friendship goes resentment grows
We will walk our different ways’
‘As the friendship goes resentment grows
We will walk our different ways’
This section is
quite self-explanatory and states that as the two’s friendship disappears, they
will begin to dislike each other more and more, and will eventually separate in
the end.
But those are
the days that bind us together, forever
And those little things define us forever, forever
And those little things define us forever, forever
All this bad
blood here, won't you let it dry?
It's been cold for years, won't you let it lie?
It's been cold for years, won't you let it lie?
(previously explained.)
‘And I don't wanna hear about the bad blood anymore
I don't wanna hear you talk about it anymore
I don't wanna hear about the bad blood anymore
I don't wanna hear you talk about it anymore’
I don't wanna hear you talk about it anymore
I don't wanna hear about the bad blood anymore
I don't wanna hear you talk about it anymore’
The character
speaking here is repeating to the other how they don’t want to hear them
talking about their arguments in the past anymore, as they just want to move on
and progress past this.
All this bad blood here, won't you let it dry?
It's been cold for years, won't you let it lie?
It's been cold for years, won't you let it lie?
(previously explained.)
